What am I watching?
Master (on Amazon Prime, Tamil Action)
I like the movie but felt it was missing an element, don’t know what though. Vijay Sethupathi sets a new standard for baddie in Tamil movies — he makes you want to look away in horror in a couple of scenes.
The Bay (on Britbox, Crime Drama, Season 1)
First impression, reminds me of Broadchurch. I like it enough to continue watching Season 2. Writers stayed close to reality; reality is a bit less dramatic than TV / movies suggest — this is not a negative for me.
Traces (on Britbox, Crime Drama)
Writers seem unsure if they should focus on the club fire and forensics or the past murder.
Dark Hearts (Britbox, Crime Drama)
I like this show; fast paced and some solid all around police work. I feel for the kid stuck between the mother and the uncle.
The White Tiger (Netflix, Hindi/English, Dark Satire)
Good movie except I wonder if the narrative style spoils it in a few places. Acting and attention to subtle details elevate the movie. Lead actor pulls off the many dimensions: mood changes, the walk, subservience, anger and more with relative ease.
Mum (on Britbox, Drama)
I like this show but have to warn it is not for all. Some may find it slow, boring, and static. I find it captivating, and intricate in character portrayal. At times, it feels like a Victorian novel that drags on simply because the lead character refuses to have that 'say it all' conversation. But this isn’t a negative in this show. The best part is when she walks away at the end into the woods away from the party.
